Surrounding Area
Our Jackson Heights, Queens branch is located along the historic #7 train line, which was designated part of the National Freedom Trail in 1999. This branch is situated in a multiethnic, multicultural neighborhood where you will find restaurants serving food from all over the globe. The Queens branch is intimate, comfortable, and air-conditioned. Located in a busy area with one of New York's most international populations, the Flushing center provides students with a friendly environment and modern facilities. Near the school is a wide selection of stores and restaurants, and the center is easily accessible by public transportation. Flushing was one of the first Dutch settlements on Long Island. Today, it is one of the largest and most diverse neighborhoods in New York City.[citation needed] Flushing's diversity is reflected by the numerous ethnic groups that reside there, including people of Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, European, African American ancestry and Jewish peoples. It is part of the Fifth Congressional District, which encompasses the entire northeastern shore of Queens County, and extends into neighboring Nassau County. Flushing is served by five railroad stations on the Long Island Rail Road Port Washington Branch, and the New York City Subway Number 7 subway line has its terminus at Main Street. The intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue is the third busiest intersection in New York City, behind only Times Square and Herald Square. Flushing is part of Queens Community Board 7 and is bounded by Flushing Meadows-Corona Park to the West, Francis Lewis Boulevard to the East, Long Island Expressway (LIE) to the South and Willets Point Boulevard to the North.
Facilities
Each branch has free internet access for students on our computers as well as wireless access. All classrooms are equipped with audiovisual equipment. NYLC-Midtown offers computer access for Test Preparation practice.
Activity
All New York Language Center students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of cultural and social activities, all led by members of the faculty. The school also offers workshops and tutorial help at no additional cost. New York City is the capital of the world and the activity programs reflect this. The school has a full time Student Life Manager who will help make students' time in NY unforgettable. Our Activities Program includes school events, cultural and recreational activities as well as optional weekend excursions outside of New York to places such as Washington D.C., Niagara Falls and Philadelphia. The Manager of Student Life can help all the students book excursions to destinations outside of New York.
