Accommodation
Homestay GEOS Boston's Homestay Program is the most popular accommodation option for our international students. All of our host families go through a rigorous screening process with our Homestay Coordinator, and are evaluated in a variety of categories by every student that stays with them (cleanliness, family activities, food, location, etc). We ensure that our students are living in safe areas throughout Boston and with caring and fun Homestay families. Most of our families have been working with GEOS for several years and live near a subway, bus or commuter rail stop making transportation care-free. Living with a homestay family is a once in a lifetime experience, a window into the local culture, and an extension beyond the GEOS classroom walls in which the student experiences day-to-day life with typical Americans. Many of GEOS Boston's students keep in contact with their homestay families after they leave, accentuating the notion that what they develop is a long-lasting and meaningful relationship. Private Residence For students not interested in living with a homestay family and depending on the length of stay, GEOS can arrange single rooms within an international student residence, which is located 15 minutes away from our school. All rooms, shared or individual are fully furnished, have WI-FI, cable TV, a landline telephone, bed linens and towels, a laundry room and bi-weekly cleaning service. The rooms also have a small kitchen, an area for dining and a bathroom.
Surrounding Area
Boston is the capital and the most populous city in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is known for its rich history and strong academics. Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest and most culturally significant cities in the United States, which makes it the ideal location for English courses. The city's architecture still reflects its historical roots – for example, near the GEOS campus downtown stands a modern skyscraper next to a 300 year-old church. Millions of people come to Boston each year to learn about the American Revolution, to visit cultural and historical landmarks such as Faneuil Hall, the Heritage Trail, and Quincy Market, and to participate in English courses!
The city was the site of several 'firsts', including the first public school and the first subway system in America. Boston’s prime location on the North Atlantic and proximity to the coast means that you can enjoy a variety of fresh seafood every day. In particular, local lobster and traditional clam chowder are not to be missed. With over 100 colleges and universities in the city alone, Boston is known as the `Athens of America´. The world’s top university, Harvard, is in Boston, which cements this city’s reputation as being an intellectual center. It is no wonder why Boston is often the first choice for students wishing to pursue post-secondary education or take English courses. In fact, close to half of Boston’s population is made up of students, making the city very student-friendly.
