Conditional Admission
The University of Oregon may offer students conditional admission if they are international students who requires English language instruction before they can begin their studies at the university level. If students are conditionally admitted, student will attend the American English Institute (AEI) to study English in an intensive environment.

Curriculum : Students at any level of English language study can benefit from studying at the AEI. AEI offer seven proficiency levels of classes, from beginning through advanced. The IEP offers a comprehensive curriculum of core classes, electives, and extracurricular programming designed to meet the academic needs and interests of English language learners (ELL). Courses are designed to create a positive and effective English learning environment within the larger university campus. Content emphasizes ELL pragmatics; building linguistic, inter-cultural, and contextual skills for seamless success into the U.S. educational system. Each learning level is divided into two core courses, Reading/Writing/Grammar (RWG) with emphasis on literacy skills development and Oral Communications Skills (OCS). Depending on students demonstrated proficiency and placement results, student's may be placed in separate skill levels. All full-time students take these two basic curriculum courses, for a total of 18 hours of required in class hours per week. In addition, students can take up to 6 additional hours of elective courses.

On campus housing
Living on campus in the Residence Halls give students the benefit of living with UO students -- near the classes, the library, the rec center, and other campus activities. This is a great way to become comfortable with new surroundings, make lots of domestic and international friends and learn more about U.S. student life and culture. Students must complete the Housing Application and the Housing Contract to apply for on-campus housing.
Homestay Program
The Homestay Program offers students a wonderful opportunity to live in the home of a local family in Eugene/Springfield, Oregon. Living with a family helps students to learn about daily life in the U.S., practice conversational English skills and share culture with others.
Off-Campus Housing
There are a wide-range of independent-living off campus options throughout Eugene/Springfield. Prices, location to campus, bus access, size and services vary. The UO Student Association (ASUO) is a resource for helping students find available housing. Living alone or with friends helps students gain real-world experience using English in a variety of situations.
Surrounding Area
The beautiful UO grounds treat pedestrians to brilliant fall foliage and amazing spring floral displays. The campus is a certified arboretum, and you’ll frequently find students and faculty members reading beneath one of the UO’s more than 3,000 trees. Parking on campus is limited by design—students are encouraged to walk, ride a bike, or travel for free by bus.
