Students do not choose their own classes. Each level is ten weeks long during fall, winter, and spring quarters. Summer quarter is only eight weeks long, but the number of hours of instruction is the same as in the other quarters. These integrated core classes are for students planning to study in an American college or university as well as for those who just want to improve their English language skills. Each class meets for two hours per day for a total of four hours per day or 20 hours of classes per week. In Speaking/Listening/Grammar classes, students listen to a variety of recorded and authentic materials from radio and video sources. Level 1 includes students who have studied English in their home countries, but have limited experience in real use of the language. Level 3 is fairly advanced; in Reading/Writing/Grammar classes, students read authentic materials from books, magazines, newspapers and a variety of sources.

Apartments
Seattle Central’s downtown location is ideal for students interested in living in an apartment. The campus is within a 15 minute walk of over 25 apartment buildings in all price ranges, ages, and sizes.
Homestay
A homestay is an opportunity to experience American life firsthand and is a very popular housing choice for our incoming students. Students in a homestay see life in the U.S. from "the inside", and can start a friendship with a family that may last for many years. Living with a host family is not just a housing option; it is a cultural experience!
Most host families live in the suburbs of Seattle, giving our students the opportunity to get a different perspective on American life than what they get from their experience on our downtown Seattle campus. Some students spend only a couple of months with their host families, and others may stay two years or more. We encourage students to take advantage of the homestay option for at least a few months during their stay in the United States.
