Global Language Institute - St. Paul/Minneapolis (GLI) About the
Global Language Institute(GLI) is dedicated to providing quality English as a second language instruction to students of the world. The organization aims to maintain the highest educational standards of instruction and student services. We also strive to promote multicultural communication and global understanding. For 20 years, GLI has been partnering with international schools, non-profits, government organizations, and educational agencies to welcome groups of 15 – 200 participants. With only 8 to 12 students in each class with qualified, friendly and professional instructors, students follow an "English Only" policy to encourage students to make their best effort at learning. After each class, experiences such as tutoring, the Independent Learning Lab, organized activities, and the athletic center all help students to improve their English skills while learning about life in the US.
Focus of Study : GLI’s Intensive English language program is designed to help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed academically, professionally, and socially.
Benefit, Goal of this course : GLI offers a highly personalized education. Classes average just 8 students, typically representing at least 6 different countries per class. Students say they value getting to know their teachers both in and out of the classroom. In fact, the personalized attention from GLI teachers – all who have advanced degrees and years of experience – is one of the school’s main features.
Curriculum : GLI’s curriculum benefits all students, but it reflects the intensive nature of a university-based Intensive English Program. After a comprehensive intake assessment, students are placed according to their level of proficiency. Students may place at different levels in the Reading, Writing, and Grammar courses than in the oral communication skills courses. Modern methods taught by dynamic, highly qualified teachers help students to learn at their highest level. Students are assessed based on a variety of factors, and a detailed progress report is provided following each session. The program is divided into four different levels; Immersion, Developing, Mastering and Accelerated Level. With main focus on Reading, Writing and Grammar and Listening and Speaking, IEP also offers elective courses. Elective courses change each session, offering students an opportunity to choose from a variety of interesting topics. Your choice of electives will be determined by your level. An elective may focus on a specific skill that you need to work on, such as reading, idioms, vocabulary, computer skills, or pronunciation. Some electives are content-based, integrating all four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Classroom Hour :
Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with a break for lunch (11:50 to 1:00). On Friday, classes meet from 9:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Individual tutoring is available Monday through Thursday.
