Focus of Study : the Intensive English Program is designed to achieve students' proficiency in English and each student's personal goal. Through the course, Century places close attention on students' development and pursues their maximum enhancement.
Benefit, Goal of this course : the Intensive English Program is divided into six different levels. Thus, even though students are being taught lessons over same subjects, the difficulty is solely dependent on their levels. Students who have been placed in appropriate level through an Entrance Exam will receive the most ideal and necessary form of education. Lower levels focus on forming a solid base knowledge of English and its structure while the upper levels work on applying the fundamental tools in real life and preparing for community college level courses.
Curriculum : In Level 1 (Beginners), students will focus on aural/oral dialogues to practice speaking/pronunciation skills. Basic vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures will also be taught. In Level 2 (Advanced Beginners), students learn to express their needs and wants. They also practice basic reading comprehension. In Level 3 (Lower Intermediate), students will develop competent grammar skills as well as vocabulary skills. They will start on paragraph writing and build on top of basic structure. Students will also learn to gain understanding over short passages and multiple paragraphs. In level 4 (Intermediate), students' lessons are focused more on applicable skills like conversations, discussions and lectures. They will encounter various reading passages (descriptive, narrative, processes etc..) and learn to write in different manners. In Level 5 (Advanced), lessons emphasize academic skills that American universities require. Students will mainly work with textbooks and passages drawn from different texts. In Level 6 (High Advanced), students will receive final touch on being ready for colleges. With challenging vocabulary and profound topics, students will practice discussions, essays and reading comprehension.
