Focus of Study : Students of ESLi program can not only excel academically, but can also experience diverse social activities. ESLi is mainly focused with students who intend to apply to colleges, but program also offers acceptance into renowned graduate programs.
Benefit, Goal of this course : Students have a choice of programs called Academic English& University Entrance or English only studies. The former program is more academically focused and intense, but students can achieve their individual pursuits through these different programs.
Curriculum : Curriculum includes language studies that include Listening, Reading, Speaking/Pronunciation, Composition, Vocabulary, and Grammar studies. In Listening classes, students will use a variety of sources to practice listening skills that can be applied both inside and outside of the classroom. For Speaking/Pronunciation, students can gain confidence when they speak in a variety of situations. Students will be comfortable with casual conversations, formal dialogue, class presentations, and so on. With Reading classes, students will have in-class reading exercises and a personalized reading program. Students will not only read for pleasure but also for university studies. Exposure to a wide variety of texts will provide the students with opportunities to find and select their own materials as well as develop some personal preferences. In Composition, students will start writing some basic paragraphs through guided practices. Then students will learn to research, organize, and compose research papers. In addition to these core skills, students will also learn word-processing skills to prepare for university writing assignments. With Vocabulary course, students will develop a vocabulary base appropriate for everyday conversations and classroom situations. They will also learn methods forlong-term building and retaining functional vocabulary. For grammar classes, students are encouraged to learn grammar through use, not just via text. Grammar instruction is provided within the context of listening,speaking, reading, and writing.

Accommodation
WKU offers fifteen different residence halls on
campus. Most ESLi students live in Pearce Ford Tower (PFT) and Barnes Campbell
because both are opened year around. PFT is a 27 story, female residence hall
on the south end of campus. The building was built in 1970 and is the tallest
residence hall in Kentucky. PFT was renovated in 2009, and there are TV lounge
and student centers within the building. Barnes Campbell is a 9 story male
residence hall built in 1966. The building was renovated in 2003, and it is
located on the south end of campus across from Activities Center.
Surrounding Area
The campus is located on a hill overlooking the
city of Bowling Green, Kentucky. City has a population of approximately 60,000.
It takes 1 hour drive by car to Nashville, Tennessee, and 2 hours drive to
south of Louisville, Kentucky. WKU has been named as one of the most beautiful
campuses in the United Nations. Students will enjoy four distinct seasons and
mild climate around the year.
Facilities
In Western Kentucky University, there are 66 major buildings on the 200-acre main
campus and another 765 acres on the University Farm. The student body is made
up of 18,000 students from all over the USA and more than 46 different
countries.
Activity
At Western Kentucky University, students will be able to take part in more than 50 intramural and club sports, experience authentic dorm community life, and take part in academically accredited journalism, education, engineering programs, and many more.
