Orono High School is a premier high school offering a college preparatory curriculum. Thanks to success on AP exams and high scores on the SATs. Orono High School is ranked in the top 5% of high schools in the US. Our community is diverse and made up of Mainers who are passionate about education. In our schools we take the work of preparing young people to be successful in a rapidly changing world very seriously. Thus, our faculty and staff work diligently to provide personalized and rewarding learning experiences for our young people. International Students who graude from Orono High School are automatically conditionally accepted to The University of Maine (a top 100 public university).
University of Maine Requirement: *3.0 GPA at Orono High School *Letter of Recommendation from Principal or Program Director *No SAT or TOEFL is required. International Students are able to study at Orono High School for ONE YEAR and earn a high school diploma, which means they can study in grade 12, the final year of high school. At the same time, students can take coures at The University of Maine to begin working on their college degree.

Global Education International students are enrolled in the "Global Education" class, which helps students integrate into life at Orono High School and in the US. Topics include: college applications, holidays in the US, study habits, cultural integration, school activities and clubs, volunteering, finances, healthcare, and more.
The US News and World Report awarded Orono High School a SILVER medal for its scores on the SATs, AP exams, and state testing in ENglish and math. Orono High School offers 26 AP classes. Thirteen are taught face-to-face, thirteen are taught remotely. AP course allows students to receive college credit while they're in high school. In addition to AP courses, Orono High School students are able to take courses at The University of Maine. Many students take advantage of this early college experience and receive high school and college credit for their efforts. For example, the US average pass rate for the AP English Literature exam is 53%. At Orono High School, 96% of our students pass. In addition to offering a wide variety of math, science, English, and history courses, Orono High School offers an array of art, music, technology, and PE classes. For international students, an ESL class is available.

Students are carefully guide d through the application process. Studying at Orono High School allows students to have face-to-face interviews with top universities to which they apply. Students who want to study in America for one year for grade 10, 11 or 12 can apply to Orono High School. If you apply for grade 12, you are eligible to graduate and receive an Orono High School Diploma. If you apply for grade 10 or 11, we will help you transfer to a private high school after 1 year.

Students are carefully matched with a local family. Most homestay familes live within walking distance to Orono High School and have prior experience hosting international students.
Surrounding Area
Orono, Maine, USA takes 3.5 hours from Boston. Orono is a beautiful and thriving community located on the shores of the beautiful Stillwater and Penobscot Rivers. It is home to the University of Maine‘s flagship campus, numerous successful businesses, a network of panoramic walking trails and preserves, and a strong Parks and Recreation Department.
Activity
Four to eight activities are provided to the international students each month. Student Ambassadors plan over 30 activities through out the school year, including ski trips, dinners, holiday parties, kayaking, and so many more! Orono High School has teachers dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of students. Students would be exposed to local events, volunteering, and opportunities for students to experience life in Orono, Maine. The goal is to prepare students for more independence and success.
