English as a Second Language (ESL)
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program helps students improve their English skills to the level necessary to be academically and socially successful at Annie Wright. Also included
in the ESL curriculum is a cultural component. In this, students learn more about their own and US cultures, the aim being for students to become not only bilingual but also bicultural in their
abilities to communicate with others.
The ultimate goal of the ESL program is to prepare students for entry into a U.S. university with little or no ESL support. Courses range from beginning to advanced levels, with placement based
on their score on the internet-based TOEFL, as well as past experience with academic English, in house testing, oral interviews, and more.
Fine Arts
annie Wright School believes that the arts are an essential part of the human experience and, therefore, that arts education must be an integral part of the Upper School curriculum. We require
that all students study the arts for their cultural, historical and aesthetic relevance, and to discover how human beings enhance verbal communication through theatre, music, dance and the
visual arts. Our program combines both participatory (i.e., practicum) and conceptual (i.e., historical) practice in art. The combined activities of “making” art and exploring its conceptual
foundations provide each student with the opportunity to learn more about herself, her culture, and the world. This knowledge is both psychological and intellectual, and can be a powerful force
in preparing her to meet the challenges of adulthood with grace and insight. 선택과목: Art & Design - Music ,Art & Design - Visual Art ,IB Film 1 (HL) ,IB Film 1 (HL) ,IB Film 2 (HL),IB Music 1 (HL) ,IB Music 1 (SL) ,IB Music 2 (HL) , IB Music 2 (SL) ,IB Visual Arts 1 (HL) ,IB Visual Arts 2 (HL)
Math
The great mathematician Gauss said that mathematics is the queen of the sciences; perhaps this is why mathematics continues to be a core subject in our educational system. At Annie Wright,
we want young women to feel comfortable with and competent in the study of mathematics, to appreciate its depth and history, to wonder at its simplicity, and to view the discipline as a vital tool
for problem solving. The mathematics department, therefore, strives to show connections to the real world whenever and wherever appropriate. This might include showing the effects of
compound interest on smart long term financial planning. We also want our students to be familiar with computers and their applications beyond word-processing.
While the school requires that students earn three credits (up to and including completion of Algebra II), we strongly recommend that students study math every year they are in Upper School. All
students new to the school, including those who matriculate from the AWS Middle School, are required to take a mathematics placement exam prior to opening day in order to ascertain their level
of mathematics proficiency and ensure proper math placement. Typically, more than 90 percent of our graduating seniors study math for each of their four years of Upper School. Coursework is
cumulative and courses are listed in sequence. TI (Texas Instruments)-84 graphing/programmable calculators are required in all math classes.

Physical Education/Athletics Two full credits in physical education. The Physical Education program strives to help girls understand the inherent value of "healthy living." Through a structured 9th grade course that deals
with nutrition, women's health, and physical fitness, students come to see how being active enhances social/emotional health, academic performance, and school/life balance
Science
The Science Department believes that science education is essential to a well-rounded education. We believe that science is a “way of knowing.” There are many skills associated with
thinking as a scientist does: observing, collecting, organizing and communicating information; using both deductive and inductive reasoning; distinguishing between evidence and opinion, and
more. It is essential in an increasingly technological society that students have a fundamental grasp of science and how it works. It is increasingly important that young women increasingly see
themselves as scientists and develop skills that will allow them to improve society in significant ways. These are the goals of the Annie Wright Science Department.

Social Studies The social studies department encourages and develops in young women the skills of critical and rational thought. The various courses offered by the department entice the students to
discover how societies develop and function. Students learn to examine cause and effect as they trace political, social, economic and cultural developments in various nations and/or regions.
As a major emphasis, the social studies department teaches young women to deal objectively with controversial issues and cross-cultural value systems. Students are required to develop
effective methodologies for the investigation of value structures inherent in the decision-making process and are urged to explore and refine their own value systems as they pursue their study of
humankind and her institutions. 선택과목:Humanities A (Honors),IB Business & Management 1 (SL), IB Business & Management 2 (SL),IB Global Politics 1 (SL) ,IB World History: 20th Century Topics (HL),IB World History:

World Languages
Basic or advanced proficiency in a second language is a fundamental part of a college preparatory course, particularly in the global context in which our students now live. Through language
study, students will be well prepared to enter college second language courses at an advanced level. Courses in Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, and English (for non-native speakers)
challenge students to confront the responsibilities of living in an increasingly interconnected world where understanding other languages and cultures is not a luxury. In all language classes,
even eventually at the first-year level, classes are conducted entirely in the target language, and materials used as references, tools and resources are authentic. In ESL classes, all classes at
all levels are conducted 100% in English.
