A Grade of Distinction or above, attained in Level 3 will satisfy the English language entry requirements for most Bond University degree programs, which require an IELTS 7 (no band less than 6.5) entry level.

We are accredited by the Australian National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) and we are a member of the English Australia (EA) group of colleges. The Bond University English Language Institute (BUELI) is located on the Bond University campus, in the heart of the Gold Coast in Australia. BUELI students have full access to the University’s worldclass facilities as well as university social events. At BUELI you can make friends from all over the world with students enrolled from over 40 countries. Most classes have students representing at least seven or eight nationalities, bringing an international perspective to the classroom. BUELI’s team of teachers are highly qualified, experienced and international. Curriculum :
BUELI offers six levels of General English from Beginner to Advanced. Courses run in 10 week blocks. We recommend students to start at the beginning of a 5 week block. General English students are assessed on weekly tasks, mid-term and end of term tests in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and grammar. Our programs are self paced and students are tested every five weeks. Once a student has improved sufficiently, they may move up to the next level. On average a student can expect to stay on one level for 10 weeks. Full-time students study for 25 hours per week. Part-time study is also available (visa permitting) for 17.5 hours per week. General English programs commence every 10 weeks throughout the year. On arrival, you will be tested and placed in the best class for you. Classes are small and are organised to make sure that each group includes people from as many different countries as possible. Classes at each level focus on everyday English, and you will have a variety of activities. These include: active listening; pair and group practice; vocabulary development; video clips; role play and drama; excursions to local places of interest; self-access language newspaper reading; discussion groups; writing workshops; daily journals (with corrections and grammar activities); music; television and movies; debates; games; speed reading etc. Your work will be continuously monitored by your teachers to assess your progress. You will also complete homework and participate in classroom projects. You will have tests and receive a written report every 10 weeks.

English for Academic Purposes starts and finishes on the same dates as Bond's academic semesters. This allows you to progress easily into Bond University degree programs. If you pass the upper level of this program you can get direct entry to Bond University without an IELTS test, as long as you also meet the academic entry requirements. English for Academic Purposes also includes intensive IELTS practice, so that if you choose to take the IELTS test you will be well prepared and ready to achieve a good score.
The EAP program focuses on the English, academic and study skills needed for Australian and international tertiary programs. You will study for 25 hours per week. Each level below is one semester of 14 weeks.
Level 1. Develops language and study skills through planning and writing essays, improving reading speed, learning how to take and organise notes, planning and delivering short speeches and presentations.
Level 2. Develops writing skills, research skills for essay writing, text analysis skills and note-taking strategies.
Level 3. Concentrates on developing skills in writing reports and essays, note-taking from written and spoken texts, understanding university lectures, research and study skills, arguments and debates.
You can enrol in this program even if your English has never been tested, by undertaking the entry test on the first day of the program. You will then be placed in the appropriate level. If your English level does not meet the entry requirement for EAP, you can enrol in General English and work towards gaining entry to EAP.

Qualification
You will need to successfully pass our entry test to get a place on this course. As a guide, an IELTS score of at least 5.0 with no band less than 5.0 (TOEFL 500) is the required level for entry to level 1 - however you still need to pass the English for Academic Purposes entry test.

BUELI students may choose from two different accommodation options - homestay with a local family or off-campus accommodation.
HOMESTAY Living with a local family, you’ll learn about Australian customs and can practice your English every day. Homestay packages include a single room with study facilities, two meals per day between Monday and Friday, and three meals per day on weekends. Room-only options are also available. OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION There are a variety of accommodation options available within walking distance of Bond. You can expect to pay around AUD$140 - AUD$190 per week for a furnished bedroom in a shared apartment.
