Focus of Study : The DSH preparation course offers the best and most intensive preparation for the German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education (DSH). Qualified teaching staff with a degree in German as a foreign language, who are familiar with the latest teaching and learning methods, teach in international groups and practise all the language skills you will need for your studies. They focus on the development of your writing and oral reasoning skills. Excellent language preparation will form the basis of your academic success! If you attend a DSH preparation course at the University Jena, you will discover the location of your future studies at the same time.

Curriculum : Language course to prepare for the German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education.When admitted to the course, participants are invited to a placement test in which their language skills are being tested

Classroom Hour :The course runs for 300 hours per semester (20 teaching units on four days a week; one day is kept free for independent study). Lessons are held from mid-October to mid-February and from early April to mid-July. 

e.g. Goethe Certificate B1, TestDaF with at least 4 x 3 and/or 800 teaching units in German from a recognized language school).

Please check first whether you already hold the university entrance qualification to study in Germany. You can use the DAAD or anabin databases to check whether your foreign educational qualifications are recognized in Germany.

Do you not hold an equivalent university entrance qualification, yet? In that case, you will have to take the assessment test (“FSP”) before starting your degree programme. Please apply for a one-year preparation course at our Thuringian Studienkolleg Nordhausen.

The DSH preparation course is not meant for beginners. We expect you to have a solid foundation in German: at least B1/GER certificate level (e.g. Goethe Certificate B1, TestDaF with at least 4 x 3 and/or 800 teaching units in German from a recognized language school).

If you are yet to achieve level B1 in German, you can attend classes at language schools in Germany or your home country

Before starting your application, get your school leaving certificates, study records, APS certificate (if applicable) and language proficiency certificates ready (see below), so that you can quickly enter the necessary information. All certificates (in their original language with a German or English translation) must be saved as a PDF and uploaded during the application process. You should get these PDFs ready before starting your online application:
an officially certified copy of your original school leaving certificate and university entrance examination (if taken) with a translation (in German or English)
an officially certified copy of your original degree certificate or times of study with a translation (in German or English)
an officially certified copy of the original transcript of records for your degree with a translation (into German or English)
Chinese and Vietnamese applicants: evidence of the certificate issued by the Akademische Prüfstelle to approve your academic achievements (original)
an officially certified copy of evidence to prove your current German proficiency (see our notes on this).

Note: Applicants and students who are under the age of 18 years are required to submit a parental consent form.
