The primary school foreign language, English, is continued by all pupils at the St. Blasien College in 5th grade. The second foreign language begins at the beginning of the second half of the 5th grade. The students have the choice between Latin and French. The third foreign language begins in class 8. Greek, Chinese, Spanish, and possibly Latin or French are possible here. As an alternative to a third foreign language, the subject of natural science and technology (NwT) can be chosen in the 8th grade. Boarding school for girls and boys are housed in different buildings. Depending on the grade level, the girls live “in the mill”, the building right next to the old building gate or in the “Franzosenbau”, which is accessible via the schoolyard. The boys' groups are inside the school building. The rooms of the high school graduates are, for example, in the newly renovated east wing.   In general, the children and adolescents live in fixed groups consisting of around 15 to 30 girls or boys, depending on their age. Each group has its own separate living area. Schoolchildren from the tenth grade live in single or double rooms, the younger ones in shared rooms. When living together, the internationality among the students is particularly valuable: living together with different cultural backgrounds automatically broadens your horizons.  Up to the tenth grade, the children and adolescents all live in generously designed multi-bed rooms. In the room, everyone has their own area, which can also be personalized. As the rooms are adequately furnished, you do not need your own furniture. The rooms are simply but comfortably furnished. They can be decorated according to your own taste and mutual agreement. It is important that everyone feels comfortable with it.  Each group also has enough space and opportunities to meet, play and cook in common rooms.  In many boarding school groups it is customary to meet in the evening for a small evening round with a common prayer in order to reflect on the day in the sense of the Ignatian daily review. The residents meet either in the group room or in one of the meditation rooms. Especially with the older students, it is common now and then to meet in the meditation room for a meditation.   The older students from the tenth grade live in single or double rooms - depending on how busy the rooms are by the students of the year. They should be allowed a degree of privacy appropriate to their age.    There are also many common rooms for a lively group life: with cooking facilities, seating, table football and a group room including a TV, DVD player and game console. An office or meeting room for the boarding school teachers offers space for personal conversations. In addition, the students have access to a large number of rooms that can be used by everyone: three meditation rooms, a large library, several computer rooms, the rooms of the music department, a large studio and two stages. A large film room under the roof invites you to the house cinema, the party room for cozy and lively get-togethers. The college television even has its own studio and the school newspaper has editorial rooms.    Surrounding Area St. Blasien with its 4,000 inhabitants is the center of the nearby region. It is known for its cathedral, sustainable tourism in every season and diverse cultural offers. The cathedral city is located in the southernmost part of Baden-Württemberg - and therefore really central: St. Blasien is located in the heart of the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland. You can reach the college within an hour from Basel, Zurich and Freiburg. In just over an hour and a half you will pass the French border. For this reason, the boarding school is particularly attractive for students from Switzerland and France.    Facilities Study rooms: focused learning  Daily studies, in which the girls and boys do their homework, learn and prepare for class work and exams, play a central role in boarding school life. Each group has its own study room. Each student has his or her own, personally furnished workspace where he or she can study. While the younger students do their school work here under the supervision of the boarding school teachers, the course level students can do their homework and prepare for exams in their own room.  Dining rooms: eat together  Eating together is an important daily ritual for the boarding school students. Different dining rooms are available for the respective age groups. There is a different table and seating arrangement for each school section between the holidays so that the girls and boys can make new contacts with each other.  Health department - with its own nurse and doctor's office hours  In the event of illness and for medical help of any kind, our health department is available. This ranges from stomach ache, colds and cuts to infectious diseases or broken bones. Boarding school students up to and including grade 10 are allowed to relax in the historic rooms of the hospital ward (Krabt). You will be looked after and cared for by our nurse there. The elderly can cure themselves in their rooms if they wish. Our family doctor holds consultation hours here four times a week and is also available for us at any time.  Rooms with tradition - educate without words  The long history and past of the college building can be seen in the architecture as well as in the many rooms and places of today's grammar school. The old Benedictine monastery has definitely left lasting traces: For example, the beautiful, venerable halls or the spacious inner courtyards bear witness to a long tradition.  The impressive classical ballroom is used today for concerts and lectures. In the baroque house chapel, formerly the monastery music hall, we regularly celebrate the Eucharist and other forms of worship together. Such very special rooms, such as the Habsburg Hall or various conference rooms, shape and educate without many words.    Activity Leisure activities: everything under one roof  In addition to the large Pater Alfred Delp sports hall, there is a swimming pool, a fitness room for boys and girls, a bouldering wall, a ballet room, table tennis tables and extensive outdoor sports facilities with natural and artificial turf fields as well as a beach volleyball field, a new tennis court and several basketball hoops for various sporting interests to disposal.
