Whether you are admitted to a German Studienkolleg or not depends on your previous education. In order to attend a Studienkolleg, you must have a higher education entrance qualification from your home country or any other country that is not part of the EU treaty system. In addition, for some countries further years of study at a university are required.
After the application procedure you will be informed about how your school leaving certificate is evaluated in Germany. Depending on this evaluation, you will either be able to directly start studying at a university, or you will need to first take a 1-year specialised course at a Studienkolleg for taking the university assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung).
Since there are more applicants than places available at the Studienkolleg, the available places are awarded via ranking in an entrance exam which tests you in German language. If you are ranked high enough you will be admitted to a one-year specialised course at the Studienkolleg. This course will prepare you well for the demands of a course of studies in Germany. The Studienkolleg Frankfurt offers the following specialised courses as preparation for studying:
M-course: for medical, biological and pharmaceutical degrees
T-course: for mathematical, science or technical degrees
W-course: for business, economics and social science degrees
G-course: for degrees in the humanities.
The university assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) can be taken two times a year. Each specific course has 4 to 5 subjects:
G-Kurs: German/ History/ German Literature / Soziology or Geography
W-Kurs: German/ Mathematics / Economics / Soziology or Geography
You can only attend the preparatory college or the courses of the International Study Center if you are at the Goethe University or the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (FRA-UAS) or the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, the Hochschule St. Georgen or the Lutherische want to study Theological University in Oberursel. After the consultation with the International Office of your university or college and the assessment of your certificates, you will know
whether you will be admitted directly to the university and have to take the DSH exam or
whether you have to attend the preparatory college and take the assessment test
Please get good advice on the application and admissions process from your university's International Office. Apply to Uni Assist (www.uni-assist.de) in good time with complete documents. The following deadlines apply:

For the Goethe University:
The application deadline for the external assessment test for the winter semester is July 15th. and for the summer semester 15.01.
For the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences:
Admission to the winter semester in the Studienkolleg: May 1st
Admission to the summer semester in the Studienkolleg: November 15th
Fees are payable for the assessment test.
1. Examination fee for preparatory students (internal examination)
The fee is € 100. It is regulated in § 9 paragraph 2 of the administrative regulation of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art dated April 25th, 2016.
2. Examination fee for the external examination
The fee is €500 for the entire external examination and €100 for the supplementary examination. These fees are regulated in Section 9, Paragraph 2 of the administrative regulation of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art dated April 25, 2016, and in Section 27, Paragraph 1 of the regulations of the FSP .
You will only be admitted to the Studienkolleg after an application process. The application process at Goethe University is explained here . You can find out here how you can be transferred to the Studienkolleg from another university in the Frankfurt area . If you have applied by the deadline, you will receive a written invitation to take the entrance test.
Admission to the specialization courses to prepare for the FSP takes place after passing an admission test . The dates of the next admission tests can be found here .
Applicants who are taking part in a course to prepare for the FSP must provide evidence of their German language skills with the B1 certificate of the Common European Framework of Reference. The better the knowledge of German, the better the conditions for admission. Experience has shown that you have to have at least level B2 to have a realistic chance. You can find more information about the language requirements here . You can find out here which certificates and language certificates can be considered minimum requirements .
What kind of test is it?
The entrance test consists of an electronic C-Test ( online example of a C-Test ), which you take personally on site.
The entrance test will determine whether you have sufficient knowledge of German to be able to follow the courses in the core courses. The people who are accepted into the ISZ are selected selectively and competitively. This means that those people are accepted who do best in the entrance test for their course type. If the number of participants exceeds the number of places available on the course, the places will be allocated in the order of the total number of points achieved in the entrance test.
If someone does not take part in the entrance test or does not pass it, the acceptance from the university automatically expires. It is possible to apply to the university again and take the entrance test again. The entrance test can only be repeated twice, at the earliest after the end of a semester.
If you have already been admitted to another preparatory college or have even taken an assessment test before, you may no longer be admitted to the preparatory college in Frankfurt.
Exemption from the entrance test
You cannot be exempted from taking the entrance test, even if you have already passed level DSH 2 or similar tests!
Preparation for the test
It is often asked how best to prepare for the entrance test: The best preparation is to attend language courses that improve your general language skills. The test examines global competencies such as text comprehension and understanding textual connections, but the most reliable command of grammar rules and orthography is also necessary in order to achieve a good result.

Surrounding Area
Frankfurt actively encourages new students to come to this lively, cosmopolitan city. While Frankfurt is one of Europe's transportation hubs and economic centers, with just under 700,000 inhabitants, it is often called “the smallest metropolis in the world". Frankfurt was ranked the "most liveable" city in Germany by the Economist in August 2018, and the 12th most liveable city worldwide.
Although it offers many of the benefits of larger urban centers, getting around Frankfurt is quick and easy by bike or public transportation. The Goethe Card that all students receive offers free local transportation on trains, buses, and trams through much of the southern part of the state of Hessen. Yet without even leaving the city, Frankfurt's broad array of museums—many of which line the banks of the Main River—and cultural institutions offer students the opportunity to dive into theater or art with steep student discounts.
Located close to Germany's most picturesque wine-growing region, Frankfurt is a green city with over 120 parks. Nature lovers can explore the hills and valleys of the nearby Taunus area—or take a boat trip or train ride up the Rhine River. And sports fans will be able to join one of over 450 sports clubs in the city (in addition to those offered at the university), as well take advantage of public pools, golf courses, and boat houses.
Plenty of outdoor markets, cafes, restaurants, and beer gardens are also found among the tree-lined streets in Frankfurt. Local specialties such as Apfelwein (apple cider) and Grüne Soße (a fresh, green herb sauce most often served with eggs and potatoes) are often served in rustic, corner restaurants, some of which have been around for centuries. And with the highest percentage of international residents in Germany, you can easily visit restaurants and buy ingredients from nearly every world cuisine.
Book lovers will also enjoy the annual Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest trade book fair which draws close to 300,000 visitors each October. And for international visitors who are eager to explore the rest of Europe, Frankfurt is an ideal location. With one of the busiest airports in continental Europe and serving as a major train hub, it's easy to take weekend trips to Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, the Swiss Alps, Vienna, and many, many other destinations.
Activity
The Studentenwerk, an independent non-profit organization which supports the 55,000 students of the Rhein-Main area in economic, social, health and cultural matters, runs both larger student cafeterias, called Mensen, and numerous smaller cafes and coffee bars on all five campuses. You can find reasonably priced lunches (€4 or less) with various side dishes and always at least one vegetarian meal. The cafes sell snacks and drinks throughout the rest of the day, and all coffee served at the Mensen and cafes are Fair Trade Certified.
The university library system consists of the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library as the central library, specialised libraries, as well as additional departmental libraries.
The specialised libraries of the university are the Law and Economics Library, the Humanities and Education Library, the Library Centre for the Humanities, the Art Library, the Library Centre for the Natural Sciences, and the Medical Library. Each of the departmental and institute-based libraries serves a corresponding academic department or research institute.
With its extensive holdings and collections, the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg is one of the leading research libraries in Germany. It was founded in 2005 when the Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main (StUB) and the Senckenbergische Bibliothek (SeB) merged to become the university's central library. The histories of both libraries go back centuries. The Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek originated from the Ratsbibliothek of the City of Frankfurt am Main in the 15th century; the Senckenbergische Bibliothek was founded in 1763 by Johann Christian Senckenberg, a Frankfurt medical doctor after whom the library is named today.
All Goethe University students, faculty, and staff have access to numerous sports facilities and classes through the Zentrum für Hochschulsport (ZfH; Center for University Sports). More than 40 sports are on offer, including badminton, basketball, fencing, gymnastics, judo, karate, riding, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. There is also a large fitness center with state-of-the-art facilities, and organized excursions and courses in hiking, climbing, sailing, skiing and many other sports throughout the semester.
