Since 1958 the language school Collegium Palatinum – IH Heidelberg has been providingGerman courses for all language levels. The school offers general language courses as well as Business German for those who want to learn German intensely and effectively in international groups or on an individual basis. Collegium Palatinum – IH Heidelberg is an authorized test centre for the European language certificates telc Language Tests as well as for the TestDaF.A variety of cultural and social activities are organized to complement the language programmes. We offer accommodation in student apartments and selected host families.

*Certificates and Credits:
Students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course if they have attended 90% of the lectures. In the case of illness,
students are required to provide a doctor’s statement (if the absence is longer than 2 days). Credits and transcripts are granted through our partner American universities.
*Official Examinations:
Our school is a certified test center for telc Language Tests and the TestDaF. Please see Ms. Belova for information about exams and registration.

We offer homestay accommodation with selected host families in Heidelberg, including either breakfast or half board. You can live with a family and practise your German language skills. The families live within 30 minutes of the school by public transport.
Alternatively, you can stay in one of our modern student apartments. The fully furnished apartments are situated in Heidelberg’s most trendy quarter, Bahnstadt. Spacious common rooms are available. This type of accommodation is most suitable for students who would like to meet other students but also want some privacy.
We can also help you find a hotel or any other accommodation.

Surrounding Area
Heidelberg is a university town in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. In the 2016 census, its population was 159,914, of which roughly a quarter consisted of students.
Located about 78 km (48 mi) south of Frankfurt, Heidelberg is the fifth-largest city in Baden-Württemberg. Heidelberg is part of the densely populated Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region.
Heidelberg University, founded in 1386, is Germany's oldest and one of Europe's most reputable universities. Heidelberg is a scientific hub in Germany and home to several internationally renowned research facilities adjacent to its university, including the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and four Max Planck Institutes. The city has also been a hub for the arts, especially literature, throughout the centuries, and it was designated a "City of Literature" by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Heidelberg was a seat of government of the former Electorate of the Palatinate and is a popular tourist destination due to its romantic cityscape, including Heidelberg Castle, the Philosophers' Walk, and the Baroque old town.

.What Happens on the First Day?
When you arrive, please wait in the entrance hall until we come to welcome you. Participants who did not submit the placement test online will have to complete a written test. All participants are required to have an oral interview, whether or not they submitted a placement test online. After the testing process, students will be placed into their respective classes and given their textbooks.
Orientation Tour and Cultural Program:
Every Monday, new students meet in the entrance hall to take part in an orientation tour through Heidelberg. A staff member will show you around the city centre and tell you about important practical information (public transportation, supermarkets, restaurants, etc.).
Information about our culture & leisure program is available on a bulletin board next to the reception. We offer new activities weekly, so be sure to check often. If you would like to participate in any of the activities, please sign up by adding your name to the list on the bulletin board.
Student Card:
With your student identification card you are eligible for discounts at museums, cinemas, and more. Discounts are not available for bus or train tickets. To redeem your card, please take a passport photo with your name on the back to Wilfried August in the main office. You may also send your photo by email to: august@collegium-palatinum.de.
Internet:
Free wireless internet (WIFI) is available throughout the school; please see the reception desk on the first day to receive a username and password. At the student apartment building internet access is also available: local area network (LAN) or WIFI in their apartment, WIFI in the common rooms. Students have to sign a liability form on the first day of class, and have to bring their passports along for a copy. We also offer a computer room at school for students to use at their convenience.
Textbooks: Textbooks for your course will be sold at your first day. Books usually cost € 14 – € 32.00. You may pay with cash or with a credit card.
Room Deposit:
Participants who are staying in the student residences need to pay their room deposit fee of
€ 250 in the main office at 10:00 a.m. on the first day.
Activity
A variety of cultural and social activities are offered as an ideal complement to the language courses. Students can practise and reinforce their new language skills as they get to know the local area and its residents.

How to Reach Us:
Our school is easily accessible with public transportation. From the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) take tram OEG 5R (in the direction of Weinheim). From Bismarckplatz take either tram OEG 5R (direction Weinheim) or tram no. 23 (direction Handschuhsheim Nord).
Our tram stop is Blumenthalstrasse. The school is a two-minute walk away from Blumenthalstrasse on a parallel street named Bergstrasse. We are located at Bergstrasse 106
