Max-Rill-Schule Schloss ReichersbeuernAbout the
The Max-Rill-Gymnasium was founded in 1938 as a private boarding school. It is
situated in a historic castle located south of Munich and—with around 140 pupils—
it is one of the smallest state-approved grammar schools and boarding schools
in Bavaria that can point to a long tradition. Given the manageable size of our
school, our teachers know their students very well and can take care of them
and accompany them on an individual basis during the learning process. Our
college has got a special profile in social sciences, theatre, and digitally-based
learning. We admit a limited number of international students and successfully
integrate them into our classes. Important for an open-minded and intercultural
learning is our partnership with a college in Moscow/Russia.
PACKING LIST FOR BOARDERS
Arrival At the end of holidays, please arrive on the last day and possibly not before 8 am at the airport. If the arrival time is earlier, plan it with us in advance.
What to bring into the boarding school: - Passport and residential card - Insurance card - Indoor slippers - Towels and toilet bag - Clothes for all seasons: casual clothes as well as a costume or a dress for festivities - Sports clothes and sports shoes for indoor and outdoor sports - Swimming clothes - Equipment for a hiking tour in the mountains: rucksack, mountain boots, anorak, gloves, warm bonnet, rain gear (we do the shopping here if necessary) - Equipment for school: pencil case with pens, rubber, ruler etc. (but all can be bought here as well) - A laptop or i-pad - Not more than one smartphone It is helpful to write one’s name into the clothes.
About pocket money: In accordance with parents, we can pay pocket money. For older students it might be more suitable to open their own bank account. When leaving into holidays at home …. .. students are required to put all their things into a big box here so that the rooms can be cleaned. Students should be sufficiently disciplined not to collect too many things and clothes. They have space to store their bags, suitcases and clothes but of course, the amount cannot be the same as they might be used from home.
Focus of Study : school offers a branch of social sciences and a special focus on fine arts (music, arts, theater). . Benefit, Goal of this course :
Curriculum :
The subject Social-practical Basic Education (Sozialpraktische Grundbildung) Nutrition and health – what has that got to do with me? This new course – Social-practical Basic Education – which has recently been introduced in the 8th Class, enables pupils to come to grips with this fundamental question. This pilot project makes it possible to investigate aspects of this topic (including ill health and addiction) in lessons for a whole year. The “practical” side of things, doing things oneself, is intended to play a foreground role, for example, nutrition-conscious cooking within the framework of an accompanying programme but also the investigation of examples from daily life such as advertising strategies for allegedly valuable foodstuffs in supermarkets, the planning and execution of surveys/questionnaires (“What has gone into your stomach in the last 24 hours?” and much more), or conversations with experts and persons affected (nutritionists, health insurance companies), thus enabling pupils to think more about their own consumer or addictive behaviour and their attitudes to the subjects treated. In the 9th Class it is, above all, the community and administrative district policy that provides the central focus, also in relation to its social-political aspects. In this connection, it is important to become acquainted with the political agents and the political and social facilities in the area. This takes place in the form of excursions, information-gathering, research, projects and internships in the field of youth education and social pedagogy.
This brings us to the second main point of emphasis in the 9th Class, the field of childhood and youth. The goal is to provide the pupils with insights into the development of children and young people, thus increasing their awareness not only of their own growth but also of changes and problems relating to their environment and their fellow human beings. In addition, the course deals with some of the typical problems that the young have, with the intention of arousing and deepening political interest and involvement on the part of both male and female young persons as a result. Each school year an at least one-week long practical training takes place directly related to the subjects treated. In the 10th Class, for example: personality; people in need; social trouble spots in industrial societies. The subject Social-practical Basic Education, comprising two hours a week, has always been a part of the Social Science branch of study at our school as has the internship laid out for 100 hours, which is a precondition for advancing to the 11th Class, and is, for the most part, completed by the pupils in the holidays.
Goals are: • Acquainting young people with current trouble spots of our society • Increased practical orientation of Personal, Social and Health Education at a Gymnasium that places special focus on Social Science • Clear action orientation • Acquisition of qualifications such as the ability to work in a team, self-reliance, and critical reflection, but also learning to be open to and aware of tendencies and problems of our modern world and society.
With regards to the branch of social sciences at Max-Rill-Gymnasium, the difference is that students attend 4 to 6 more lessons weekly from this field compared to other branches. The subjects taught with a special focus in the branch of social sciences are: Economy and law; social studies; social-practical basic education.
With regards to the special focus on fine arts, at Max-Rill-Gymnasium, students choosing this branch attend 2 to 4 more lessons weekly from the field of music and arts. Additionally, Max-Rill-Gymnasium offers students a lot of opportunities to further their aesthetic education (for example: choir lessons, instrumental training, elective course "vocal ensemble" in the upper school, Music and Art courses in the upper school, project seminars on media production and set construction in the upper school)
