  Theodor-Fliedner-Internat Kaiserswerther Diakonie About the

In 1836 Pastor Theodor Fliedner and Friederike Fliedner founded the first school of nursing. This was the first institution to combine medical, social and educational care known as the "Kaiserswerther Diakonie." While the Theodor-Fliedner-Internat (TFI) carries on the tradition of education and schooling we at TFI do not teach a religious belief. Supporting students in a caring environment has always been our philosophy.
Our secondary students are respected as individuals. The TFI with its' intercultural approach offers 75 secondary school students regardless of nationality or religion a familiar living and learning environment. Our youths visit schools in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. Open year-round we support the academic and personal growth of each youth between the ages of 12 and 21.
We would be delighted to arrange an individual appointment to show you around our facilities and the surrounding area of historical Kaiserswerth.
TFI is one of the few boarding houses in Germany situated in a green setting and yet very close to city life. Our location is the exceptionally charming town of Kaiserswerth. The town, with its' ancient castle ruins old town square, and quaint historical houses, is located directly on the Rhein river. Convenient transportation to the Düsseldorf city center and the surrounding areas are less than 2 blocks away.
This proximity to the Rhein and to the thriving city atmosphere is what inspires and stimulates our students at TFI.

Students from any Duesseldorf Gymnasium can live in the boarding house.
