The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is a university located in Weimar, Germany, and specializes in the artistic and technical fields. Established in 1860 as the Great Ducal Saxon Art School, it gained collegiate status on 3 June 1910. In 1919 the school was renamed Bauhaus by its new director Walter Gropius and it received its present name in 1996. Approximately 4,000 students are enrolled at the university today. In 2010 the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar commemorated its 150th anniversary as an art school and college in Weimar.

Student dormitory Furnished rooms are rented in the dormitories. All rooms are single rooms, kitchens and bathrooms are usually shared. When concluding the rental agreement, a deposit of 300 euros must be paid. Internet fee 10 Euro per month.

Weimar is a city in the federal state of Thuringia, Germany. It is located in Central Germany between Erfurt in the west and Jena in the east, approximately 80 kilometres (50 miles) southwest of Leipzig, 170 kilometres (106 miles) north of Nuremberg and 170 kilometres (106 miles) west of Dresden. Together with the neighbour cities Erfurt and Jena, it forms the central metropolitan area of Thuringia, with approximately 500,000 inhabitants. The city itself has a population of 65,000. Weimar is well known because of its large cultural heritage and its importance in German history.

Getting to the school from the airport
By Train Weimar’s train station is serviced by Intercity Express (ICE) trains and is situated approximately 2 km north of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. To get to campus, you can either take a 30-minute walk through the historic part of town or simply get on the bus line 1 toward Belvedere/Ehringsdorf/Taubach. Within ten minutes, you will reach the stop »Bauhaus-Universität« at Marienstraße next to the Mensa am Park (student dining hall).
