Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium About the
The Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium Cottbus is a school with extended education in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT). It has existed since 1989 and was initially located in the Sandow district in the north-west of Cottbus. The school is currently located near the Brandenburg Technical University, at Universitätsstrasse 18.
Our greatest successes include many bronze, silver and gold medals at the international physics, chemistry, biology and computer science Olympiads, many prizes at the state and Federal Olympiads, successes in the "Jugend forscht" competition and much more. We are one of the most successful schools in the state of Brandenburg.
Technical and creative contacts are maintained with the other special high schools, in particular with the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Gymnasium Frankfurt/Oder.
The Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium was actively involved in the Bertelsmann Foundation's "CFILM" learning network , which examined the promotion of talented students interested in mathematics, science and technology.
At our school in lower secondary level the number of hours per week in physics, chemistry and biology is increased. Technology and computer science are compulsory subjects. Learning with small class sizes and in split groups is very intensive. Additional elective courses and study groups in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, technology and computer science complete the training. In the upper secondary level, the profile or advanced courses are mainly in the above-mentioned subject areas.
As part of the general Abitur education, English, French, Latin and Russian are offered as foreign languages.
Intensive preparation and successful participation in performance comparisons, competitions and Olympics is a constant part of our work.

Surrounding Area
Cottbus is a university city and the second-largest city in Brandenburg, Germany. Situated around 125 km southeast of Berlin, on the River Spree.
Cottbus is the cultural centre of the Lower Sorbian minority. Many signs in the town are bilingual, and there is a Lower Sorbian-medium Gymnasium and a Sorbian Quarter, but Sorbian is rarely spoken on the streets.
Next to Cottbus is the famous Branitz Park, created by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau after 1845. Schloss Branitz was rebuilt by Gottfried Semper in a late Baroque style between 1846 and 1852, and the gardens Prince Hermann laid feature two pyramids. One of these, the Seepyramide, is in the middle of an artificial lake and serves as his mausoleum.
Activity
Although Cottbus cannot boast the great variety of noisy entertainment centers, it offers excellent opportunities for enjoying sports and outdoor activities. An interesting symbol of the city is the old railway Parkeisenbahn Cottbus, the route of which passes through the most beautiful areas. Anyone can take a ride on the old train along the road that passes through the territory of beautiful parks and near famous attractions. Such train tours are especially popular among tourists with children. Another unusual entertainment is stagecoach rides around the city that typically last about two hours.
