Host Family -Host family accommodation offers the opportunity to practise German in a friendly setting. -Staying with a German host family also means discovering a new culture, sharing the daily life of the hosts. -A large network of host families, selected according to strict quality criteria.
Self-catering homestay (WG) (from 18 years) -This accommodation option, also known as “Wohngemeinshaft” or WG in German, is very popular in Germany. It is suitable for more independent students who wish to stay with German people in the centre of Berlin.
Student apartment(from 18 years) -located in the same building as the school -a single room, a double room(for students travelling together) -a bathroom -a fully equipped kitchen -Wi-Fi internet access -PICKING UP THE KEYS FOR THE STUDENT RESIDENCE Students should plan to arrive between
3pm and 5pm on Sunday. An ALPADIA staff member will welcome you on spot to give you the
keys. We therefore kindly ask you to inform us about your exact time of arrival in advance. In
case of last minute changes, please call us at the following number: 0049 (0)171 92 82 982.
LOCATION OF THE RESIDENCE The residence is located around 15 minutes away from
Freiburg’s main station. Take tramway n°1 (red line) direction “Landwasser” and get off at the
“Diakoniekrankenhaus” stop. The “Wirthstrasse” is on your right-hand side. You can already see
the residence (8-floor building), which is located on the left in the “Wirthstrasse”.
By car, you must take the freeway A5 and exit at “Freiburg Mitte”. Then take the “Landwasser” exit
and follow the “Diakoniekrankenhaus” sign. An “ALPADIA” sign indicates the residence’s entrance.
DESCRIPTION OF THE RESIDENCE During your stay, you will be accommodated in a single room,
on the first floor of the residence. You will be sharing the fully equipped kitchen with 13 other
guests (male and/or female). There is a communal lounge on the ground floor. All bedrooms have
en-suite bathrooms (shower and WC). The residence is located a 2-minute walk to the tramway
stop.
DEPOSIT AND CONTRACT Student are required to pay a cash deposit of EUR 300,- on their first
day at the school to cover the possible loss or damage of contents. Students are given a receipt
for the deposit.
Students will have to sign a contract which is given together with the keys on their first day at the
place of accommodation. If you notice any damage upon arrival, they must inform the school
office.
The deposit will be refunded on the last day of your course, after inspection of the bedroom by an
ALPADIA staff member, provided that no damage has been done. EUR 40 is charged and
deducted from the deposit for end-of-stay housekeeping service. If any damage is done to the
bedroom or communal lounge, we will deduct the corresponding amount from the deposit.
-ROOMS All rooms are equipped with a bed, a closet, a desk and a chair. Bed linen is
provided. Towels have to be brought along. Each room can be locked.
KITCHEN AND MEALS You can prepare and eat your meals in the kitchen equipped with an
electric oven, a fridge, crockery and kitchen utensils. At the end of your stay, please throw away
your food. The new students will appreciate it. The students are responsible for the cleanliness of
the kitchen and the fridge. We recommend washing dirty dishes right after they are used.
Students must buy the washing up liquid at their own expense. Food can be purchased from the
REWE supermarket (located at Auwaldstrasse 90 and open from 7 am to 8 pm Monday through
Saturday) or TREFF supermarket (located at Auwaldstrasse 90 and open from 8 am to 8 pm
Monday through Friday, and until 6 pm on Saturday). Please do not take food of other students.
SMOKING This is a non-smoking residence. We kindly ask you to smoke outside.
OVERNIGHT VISITORS For security reasons, no visitors will be admitted into the residence at
night.

After your German classes, set off to discover the city. Students will find the numerous shops of the historical centre and its beautiful gothic cathedral. Their language study trip to Germany will be an opportunity to explore Freiburg, this youthful and dynamic university city. The atmosphere is relaxed and invites students to idle away in the heart of Freiburg and meet its cheerful residents. The school organises a weekly activities programme, which will offer them the chance to explore the city by bike, watch films together with the other international students and take part in Stammtisch.

1.TRANSFER FROM Basel/Mulhouse, Frankfurt/main or Zürich AIRPORT If you booked an airport transfer, your driver will be waiting for you in the arrival hall (meeting point). He will be holding a sign with your name, “ALPADIA-Freiburg“ or “Freiburger Reisedienst” on it. Should unforeseen circumstances occur (delays, etc.) please call the emergency phone number +49 (0)761 500 500. If you don’t inform us, the driver will not wait for you and you will have to get to your accommodation on your own. In this case, transfer fees are not refunded. In order to organize your transfer, please provide us with your arrival details at least two weeks prior to your arrival.
ARRIVING BY TRAIN: Many trains leave the airport and other towns in the direction of Freiburg.

FROM THE TRAIN STATION (by bus, train, taxi): Freiburg is a town with a well-organized bus

We also recommend to take the taxi to your final destination. The taxi station is situated in front of
the train station (left to Intercityhotel).
ARRIVAL BY CAR: Please note that you need to have an “Umwelt- Feinstaubplakette“
(environmental sticker) to use your car in Freiburg. You can purchase it for 5.- Euro at
Bürgerservice (Baslerstrasse 2) or get it online beforehand (http://www.umweltplakette.org). If
you do not have this sticker, you may be given a 40 Euro fine. During the day, you can park your
car at the ALPADIA school. The parking is closed at weekends and from 5 pm to 8 am during the
week.
