Southern Lakes English College (SLEC), Queenstown, established in 1993, prides itself on quality of education. Owners and managers Blaise & Sarah Barham, with over 40 years of ESL experience both in teaching and administration, guarantee quality of teaching and service. SLEC is a small, exclusive English as a Second Language school registered with the New Zealand Qualification Authority and is also an associate member of English New Zealand. At SLEC they pride themselves on providing a friendly, caring and exciting environment in which to learn English and experience New Zealand. SLEC offers a wide variety of top quality English language courses, including General English, International Examinations, many English plus courses ranging from English plus skiing/snowboarding (June- Oct) to English plus adventure and many others the rest of the year, Group holiday camps and more. The staff are well-qualified, experienced and caring and SLEC offer students a supportive 'family' atmosphere where they can make lifetime friendships as they study, play sport and have fun together.

Curriculum: Morning classes develop speaking, listening, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills in a communicative way and afternoon classes concentrate on developing fluency and confidence in English with the aim to develop speaking and listening skills. Students are tested every week and advanced to higher levels as competence is attained at each class level. Monthly feedback reports are also given for students. This is in the form of a tutorial with the teacher and a written feedback from both student and teacher. A certificate of attendance and a final graduation report is awarded at graduation. This course offer all levels from Beginner to Advanced. The average class size is 7 or 8 with a maximum of 14 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.
Sample Schedule: (25 hours/week) 9.00am - 12.00pm with a morning break 12.00pm - 1.00pm lunchtime 1.00pm - 3.00pm afternoon classes

Accomodation
HOMESTAY SLEC thoroughly evaluates the accommodation that it advertises and can recommend them to be suitable for students while they are studying with us. As Queenstown is relatively small, all of these families are known by the school and are an integral part of the college. Most of the students choose to stay with one of homestay families and if the students are staying on in Queenstown SLEC can assist them in finding accommodation. Living with New Zealand families gives students the opportunity of experiencing our way of life. Homestays provide dinner, bed and breakfast Monday through Friday, plus lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Homestay includes: • Bed, dinner and breakfast 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). • Bed, dinner, lunch and breakfast 2 days a week (Weekends).
GUEST HOUSES
The hosts of SLEC Student houses are very friendly and caring and really enjoy entertaining and meeting people. The houses are large and comfortable homes with beautiful views within walking distance of downtown Queenstown. They host students of all nationalities in their homes, which become wonderful international families. A homestay with a difference! Student Houses include: • Bed, dinner and breakfast 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). • Bed, dinner, lunch and breakfast 2 days a week (Weekends).
Surrounding Area
Southern Lakes English College is located in the centre of Queenstown, close to shops, banks, parks, cafés and restaurants.
Facilities
It is made up of 6 spacious classrooms and a common room with a kitchenette and a ping-pong table. In the same building as the school, the students also have Internet via a WiFi connection and benefit from concessionary rates for the Queenstown Gym and at Discovery Lodge.
Activity
SLEC have a great activity programme for all their students at SLEC. SLEC have a free after school activity every Wednesday. Their school buses mean that they can travel to interesting local places away from the centre of town. SLEC also encourages students to do many of the great activities available in Queenstown such as sky diving, bungy jumping, paragliding . Maori shows and enjoying the great nature as well as socialising together at weekends. In this way, students can share great life experiences with other students from all over the world. This provides a great fun way to practise their English that they learn at school.
