CCEL is the University of Canterbury’s English language provider, based on its campus in Christchurch and also in the Auckland City Centre. This gives students the choice of two great schools in two excellent locations. Students who study at CCEL can enjoy ; a university environment and the use of university facilities at the Christchurch campus, a vibrant city atmosphere at the Auckland campus, the chance to work part-time if you study for 14 weeks or more at CCEL Christchurch, a wide range of course, experienced teachers who will help you improve your English, homestay or residence accommodation, studying with friends from many different countries, great facilities and learning resources, free sports activities every week, free wireless internet access and much more. CCEL is at a vibrant city for international students - culture, shopping, restaurants, entertainment and nightlife. CCEL is also close to smaller towns famous for Maori culture, amazing scenery and skiing on Mt Ruapehu. Also Auckland is the City of Sails, students explore the exciting waterfront and see the amazing maritime culture of Auckland.
Focus of Study : The General English courses are for people who want to improve their all-round English skills and learn how to communicate effectively. GE courses include, speaking, listening, reading and writing lessons and vocabulary and grammar development. They also include discussions of news and current affairs and New Zealand customs and culture. Courses are intensive, have regular testing and a focus on student progress. They also help develop skills for independent lifelong learning.
Curriculum : General English is for students who need to improve their all-round English skills. The course lasts from 2-50 weeks based on students' choice and starts every Monday. Full time students will have 25 hours of lessons per week. Levels are available for beginner to advanced students in 6 different levels.
Classroom Time : From 2 to 50 Weeks and maximum 25 hours per week.

Students who successfully complete an EAP course at CCEL (and meet the UC's academic entry requirements) can transfer to the UC's Foundation Studies programme or one of their undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree programmes without taking IELTS. The course primarily focuses on academic English skills needed for tertiary study. They include development and practice of Academic reading and writing skills, Academic vocabulary, Skills for understanding lectures, Skills for giving presentations, and Skills for participating in academic discussions. The EAP courses also include online learning, extended assignments, and regular progress tutorials.
Curriculum : Minimum entry levels apply. Placement in an English for Academic Purposes - Pathway to UC class will depend on level assessment. Entry requirements are given in the chart below. The CCEL level assessment can be taken overseas before arriving in New Zealand. Course length is 12 weeks for both EAP1 and EAP2. There are 5 start dates per year for EAP1 and 3 start dates per year for EAP2. Full time students have 20 hours of lesson per week in class, 5 hours of self study and 5 hours of online study.

In a CCEL homestay students can experience the Kiwi lifestyle and practise English with their host family. All host families are inspected and selected by CCEL based on students' needs. Each will have their own furnished bedroom, breakfast and dinner everyday (plus lunch at weekend). Students can also chose from campus residence if they wish to meet other international students of CCEL.

Located at North Island of New Zealand, Auckland is a great place to study. It is the largest and most multicultural city in NewZealand and is a vibrant city for international students - culture, shopping, restaurants, entertainment and nightlife. The city is close to smaller towns famous for Maori culture, amazing scenery and skiing on Mt Ruapehu.
